As part of the preparation for the implementation of Stage IV of the “Saryarka” trunk gas pipeline construction, a Feasibility Study (FS) was developed, which provides for the construction of compressor stations “Zhezkazgan” and “Temirtau”.
The project aims to increase the throughput capacity of the existing trunkline and ensure stable gas supply to the central and northern regions of Kazakhstan.
The FS stage scope included:
  • engineering and technical analysis of compressor station siting conditions;
  • evaluation of layout and process efficiency;
  • development of energy supply and infrastructure routing;
  • preliminary CAPEX and OPEX assessment;
  • techno-economic investment analysis and profitability calculation.

Project objective: ensure reliable and uninterrupted gas supply to the central and northern regions of the country, including Zhezkazgan, Temirtau and Astana, as well as improve environmental performance by transitioning from coal fuel to natural gas.

Project Features
To enhance the reliability and throughput capacity of the gas transmission system in the West Kazakhstan region, a Feasibility Study (FS) was developed for the construction of the second string (looping) of the trunkline.
The project includes the construction of a new 152 km pipeline section, its integration into the existing trunkline network, as well as the development of new gas distribution stations and tie-in segments. The route selection accounted for geological and hydrological conditions, as well as existing regional infrastructure.
The Client is Intergas Central Asia JSC with the participation of the Kazakhstan branch of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO).
The developed FS successfully passed the state expertise review and received a positive opinion, forming the basis for further design and construction.

Key significance of the project:
  • ensures stable and uninterrupted gas supply to Uralsk and nearby settlements;
  • increases the reliability of the regional gas transmission system;
  • enables industrial and residential development;
  • supports the expansion of energy infrastructure and the growing regional gas demand.

As part of Kazakhstan’s strategic petrochemical development program, a Feasibility Study (FS) was completed for the construction of ethane and propane trunk pipelines (“ethane pipeline” / “propane pipeline”) from the Tengiz field to the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark (NIPT) in the Atyrau region.

Key parameters:
  • approx. 210 km length per line
  • shared corridor alignment (parallel routing)
  • transported products: ethane and propane
  • priority: industrial and environmental safety
The FS stage defined the optimal routing considering geodetic, environmental and infrastructure constraints, established throughput capacities, and developed reliability and safety requirements for future operation.
The FS was approved by state expertise and serves as the basis for further design and construction.

Project purpose:
provide stable and safe transportation of ethane and propane feedstock from the gas separation complex at the Tengiz field to polyethylene and polypropylene production units within the NIPT (Karabatan), forming the midstream foundation for Kazakhstan’s petrochemical industry growth.

Project Highlights
The “Saryarka” trunk gas pipeline is one of the most significant infrastructure projects in Kazakhstan, aimed at delivering natural gas to the central and northern regions of the country and improving the environmental situation.
Implementation of the project provided access to natural gas for more than 2 million people in 211 settlements.
Project Objectives:
  • reliable and uninterrupted gas supply to the central and northern regions;
  • environmental improvement;
  • higher quality of life for the population;
  • strengthening the energy security of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
  • creation of new jobs and additional tax revenues.
The project is part of Kazakhstan’s priority development program for transport and energy infrastructure and has been implemented under the strategy “Five Social Initiatives of the President” (Presidential Address of 5 March 2018).
Project Significance
Construction of more than 1,500 km of trunkline enables conversion of utilities, industrial facilities and residential sectors to natural gas. This supports improvement of the fuel and energy balance, enhances environmental sustainability of cities and accelerates infrastructure development along the pipeline route.
The implementation of the project contributes to sustainable economic growth, creates new jobs and ensures phased connection of more than 170 settlements to the gas distribution system.

Construction of the “Beineu–Bozoy–Shymkent” Trunk Gas Pipeline
Project Highlights
The “Beineu–Bozoy–Shymkent” trunk gas pipeline is one of the largest pipeline projects in the history of independent Kazakhstan and plays a key role in strengthening the country’s energy security.
The project was launched on 18 January 2011 through the establishment of a joint venture — LLP “Gas Pipeline Beineu–Shymkent” — between Kazakhstan’s “KazTransGas” and China’s “Trans-Asia Gas Pipeline Company Limited” on a parity basis.
The pipeline route (Ø 1067 mm) runs through Mangystau, Aktobe, Kyzylorda and Turkestan regions. The total length of the corridor is 1,487 km with five compressor stations planned along the route.

The project is being implemented in stages and has strategic importance:
  • secures uninterrupted supply of domestically produced natural gas to the southern regions of Kazakhstan;
  • creates additional export capacity for Kazakh gas.

KATEK LLP performed the basic design documentation for the construction of a compressor station and a pipeline section within the Kyzylorda region.

Construction of the “Almaty–Taldykorgan” Trunk Gas Pipeline
Project Highlights
A 530 mm trunk gas pipeline with a total length of 265 km was commissioned in 2017. In parallel, the automatic gas distribution station (AGDS) “Taldykorgan” was put into operation within the city, with a capacity of 100,000 Nm³/h.

The project enabled:
  • connection of several Taldykorgan districts to the centralized gas supply system;
  • provision of natural gas to more than 410,000 residents across three cities and six districts of Almaty Region;
  • replacement of expensive imported gas and reduction of coal / solid fuel usage.

Gasification of the regional center became a key milestone for the development of the region, opening new opportunities for improved quality of life and forming an environmentally safer energy infrastructure.
